On this page there are links to various diagrams, charts, maps, videos etc. which explain various geological phenomena, especially those that are found in Mull and the other islands.

 

Subjects covered include ring dykes, cone sheets, dykes, sills and other mainly igneous features which are common in thes islands.

 

1) Dykes and Sills:

 

Huge numbers of dykes, sills and cone-sheets are to be found in Mull and other places on the west coast. The diagram above shows quite well some of the various structures associated with igneous activity.  Note the dyke feeding a lava flow - this is a style of igneous activity that occurred in Mull according to current theories.
